A booklet is a court-specific reference for one filing, from first page to last.

The ten parts

Two of these are fixed wording (marked locked), six are always required, and the rest depend on the case.

#PARTSTATUSPRACTICAL NOTE
1IndexRequiredList every part and annexure with page numbers. The Index is also what your PDF bookmarks should follow.
2Condonation of delay (S.5 Limitation Act)OptionalOnly if you are late. Explain each stretch of the delay with dates. See the note on condonation.
3Date and eventsRequiredA dated chronology of the case from the cause of action to the impugned decree.
4Memo of revisionRequiredThe facts, the decree challenged, and why the revision lies.
5GroundsRequiredOne ground to a paragraph, each tied to the record. A revision is not a second appeal on facts, so frame errors of jurisdiction and material irregularity.
6PrayerLockedStandard wording: set aside the decree and grant such other relief as the Court finds fit.
7Application for stayOptionalFile it when execution is imminent, with the reason it cannot wait.
8Supporting affidavitRequiredSworn by the party or a person who knows the facts, matching the memo.
9VerificationLockedStandard wording. See the note on why it is written last.
10VakalatnamaRequiredSigned by the party, with the advocate’s enrolment details.

Common reasons for a return

  • Cause title that does not match the lower court record.
  • Annexures out of order or missing from the Index.
  • Affidavit and memo that disagree on a date or an amount.
  • No application for condonation when the revision is filed late.

Check before you file

  • Forum confirmed under the current Section 25
  • Certified copy of the decree and judgment attached
  • Court fee paid on the memo of revision
  • Annexures in the order of the Index
  • Affidavit, memo and verification agree on every date
  • Vakalatnama signed
